The Village of Clarendon Hills established the Blue Dot parking permit program in order to allow employees of the Central Business District (the "CBD") businesses to purchase a permit for parking in designated areas. The Blue Dot program allows these CBD employees to park in designated areas beyond the posted time limits without incurring a parking citation. Blue dot permits unlike commuter parking permits, do not bar others from using the parking spaces for the posted time limit. Blue dot parking spaces are posted with a blue dot on parking signs. The parking sign will indicate two hour parking, however that two hour limit does not apply to blue dot permit holders.
Blue dot parking spaces are located around the border of the Central Business District, which allows prime customer parking spaces to be available for those shopping in the CBD.

Upon the onset of the program, most businesses required less than ten permits for their employees. A number of growing businesses requested additional permits and this request was granted.
When a CBD employee applies for a blue dot permit, an application is filled out and a fee of $50.00 is charged for a six month period (January – June and July – December). The permit is then renewable every six months with a renewal notice being mailed out approximately one month before the new permit is due to be displayed. If a new employee applies for a blue dot two or more months into the program, the $50.00 fee will be prorated. The blue dot permit is to be displayed on the rear view mirror of the vehicle and at no time are blue dots transferable to another employee. On the occasion an employee temporarily changes the car they are driving, they need to notify the Police Department in order to avoid a citation. The proper displaying of the blue dot permit allows the Police the ability to view the permit assuring the employee is not ticketed.
