Downtown Master Plan

Downtown Clarendon Hills

Downtown Clarendon Hills is one of the Village’s major attractions. It is home to a number of chain retailers with national and regional presence as well as independently owned stores and service providers. Downtown stores include restaurants, cafés, home décor and fine art stores, and gift shops. Starbucks Coffee, Hallmark Cards, and Ace Hardware are examples of existing businesses. Services, including veterinary care, day spas, banking institutions, and a post office, are also located within the downtown. The mix of businesses in the downtown shopping district, along with its strong pedestrian-oriented  environment, creates a pleasurable shopping experience that offers convenience for patrons seeking a variety of goods and services.

At the heart of the downtown is the Clarendon Hills Metra station. The station is located on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail line, which has the highest  ridership volume of all 15 Metra rail lines and branches. The Clarendon Hills station attracts commuters within the Village and from surrounding communities. Nearly 900 people board the station on an average weekday. In addition to regular patrons, this commuter population serves as a consistent customer base for many of the retail and service uses downtown.

Downtown Master Plan

The Clarendon Hills Downtown Master Plan was completed in March 2006. The plan focused on improving existing conditions and capitalizing on the market potential for downtown development. Overall, the Master Plan seeks to enhance the downtown, provide an optimal mix of residential and commercial land uses, and improve traffic and parking conditions.
