Ogden Avenue is a major retail center in the Village of Clarendon Hills. With traffic counts exceeding 25,000 vehicles per day, it is the busiest street within the Village’s municipal borders. Currently, Clarendon Hills’ stretch of Ogden Avenue is home to multiple businesses including dine-in restaurants and furniture stores. The street has direct access onto Route 83, which has traffic counts of more than 70,000 vehicles per day. Interstate 294 is approximately two miles east of the Ogden Avenue corridor.
Ogden Avenue also serves as a major arterial street and retail corridor for southern and eastern DuPage County. The street has significant “big box” presence, including retailers such as Office Depot, Hobby Lobby, and Micro Center. Additionally, Ogden Avenue serves as an auto row for southern DuPage County. Toyota, BMW, Lexus, Land Rover, Mercedes, and Acura are several auto dealerships present along the corridor.
In 2003, the Ogden Avenue Redevelopment Strategy for Clarendon Hills was completed to determine the development potential of the corridor. Based on Ogden Avenue’s locational characteristics and the market area’s expendable income and demographic profile, the study concluded a number of retail uses could be supported, including an auto dealership, a gourmet/specialty grocery store, an arts/fabrics/craft store, and additional restaurants and furniture stores.
