Train Station Area Redevelopment Planning Project

Train Station Study
In 2006, the Village Board approved the Downtown Plan, which outlines opportunities for growth in downtown Clarendon Hills. A key component of the plan is redevelopment of the downtown train station site to improve accessibility and to create additional opportunities for development. A grant from the Regional Transportation Agency (RTA) and matching funds from the West Suburban Mass Transit District is currently funding a study to create a Train Station Area Redevelopment Plan. The study will allow the Village to better assess the needs of area residents, commuters and businesses and to determine the development potential of the site. The Village hired planning firm Houseal Lavigne Associates to oversee the planning process, which will also include input from specialists in other fields. The Village Board appointed a steering committee, consisting of representatives from the Village Board, various Village commissions, the Chamber of Commerce, Village staff and relevant transportation agencies to guide the preparation of the Train Station Area Redevelopment Plan. By developing a concept, the Village can seek grant funding for portions of the project and work to attract potential developers.

Draft Concept Plans
The Project Steering Committee and consultant Houseal Laveigne Associates presented concept plans to the public during a community meeting at on Monday, March 14 at Prospect School. At the meeting, attendees had the opportunity to review and comment on concept plans for the site. The concept plans were developed as a way to determine the capacity for various uses on the site and how thoses uses might be situated on the site.

Following the public meeting, the consultants will be considering public comment and then getting input from developers on any concerns or issues they see related to the project. The plan will then be considered by the Village's Plan Commission and then Village Board. If you were unable to attend the meeting, but would like more information on the concept plans, please contact Community Development Director Michael Brown at 630-286-5412 or mbrown@clarendonhills.us.

Following the Community Meeting, public comments will be incorporated into the concepts, which will then be forwarded to the Villages' Plan Commission and then to the Village Board for consideration. Consultant Houseal Lavigne Associates has also created an opportunity to provide input and follow the planning process online. Please visit the Clarendon Hills Train Station Area Redevelopment website to provide your ideas for the plan.
