Water Accounts and Billing
Village Water Rates
|
Charges for water service fund the purchase of water from the DuPage Water Commission and the maintenance of the Village's water infrastructure. In 2011, the City of Chicago announced that it would increase the amount it charges for water. It has planned a rate increase that will go into effect over the next four years. To lessen the impact on residents, the Village is spreading this increase over the next five years.
It is necessary for the Village to pass these water rate increases on to users so that the Village can continue to support current and future water operating and capital expenses, including its 29 miles of water mains. The Village continues to replace old and failing water mains, however more than 16 miles of the Village's water mains are 67 years old and older.
The Village's scheduled rates for water are as follows:
May 1, 2012: $9.77 per 1,000 gallons
May 1, 2013: $10.82 per 1,000 gallons
May 1, 2014: $11.87 per 1,000 gallons
May 1, 2015: $12.92 per 1,000 gallons
May 1, 2016: $13.97 per 1,000 gallons

Identity Theft Protection Program
|
The Village of Clarendon Hills made changes to the information collected from residents for water service, as a part of an identity theft protection program. This program is intended to protect customers, employees and the Village from problems associated with or caused by the loss or misuse of sensitive information which could be used in identity theft. New customers are required to fill out a revised water service application and produce government issued identification. In addition, all water billing accounts will be monitored for "red flags" or activity that indicates the possible existence of identity theft. The establishment of the Village's Identity Theft Program and Prevention Policy is in compliance with the federal Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003. For additional information regarding this program, please contact the Finance Department at (630) 286-5400.

Establishing Water Service
|
If you are new to the Village or moving within the Village, you must notify the Water Billing Department at (630) 286-5416. A Water Service Application must be completed and brought in person to the Village Hall. The Village is required to comply with the new Identity Theft Red Flag Rule issued by the Federal Trade Commission. This Rule is intended to minimize incidents of identity theft and fraud in the opening and maintenance of water billing accounts. In order to comply, the Village must verify the identity of each person establishing a water billing account.
If you are moving from the Village, you must notify the Water Billing Department at (630) 286-5416, in order to obtain a final read on your account.

Sales Tax
|
Shopping locally strengthens your Clarendon Hills economy. A portion of the sales tax collected on each purchase made in the Village is returned here. Of the 7.25% in sales taxes collected on a purchase, 1% is returned to the Village and the remaining 6.25% is distributed between the state, county, Regional Transportation Authority and the DuPage Water Commission. Sales tax receipts account for over $500,000 in the Village's operating budget. These revenues are important for funding the delivery of police and fire protection, emergency medical and public works services.
